We are leaving the Lake Nakuru area today. Lake Nakuru is a shallow salt water lake in the middle of a national park. It is home to the famous pink flamingos that live there. There are so many of them that the lake appears pink in color from miles away. We had rain yesterday while on safari and it was just like the lion king scene when the storm comes up. Absolutely stunning. We are in a land cruiser that has a top that goes up so we can stand and up and see the animals. You name it we saw it... At arms distance. Lionesses, zebras, white and black rhinos, water buffalos (including one that had an itch he just didn't seem to be able to take care of) giraffes playing tag around the bushes, a hippo, ba boons playing, fighting gazelles, pink flamingos, pelicans, wart hogs that looked like pumba, jackals that sleeked along, and the famous yellow acacia trees that provided a beautiful canopy. We were constantly charged by water buffalo that were protecting their young. The impallas were amazing. Thousands of them running gracefully across the plain. Our hotel is very nice. Everything here is full board, so our stay includes all of our meals. Our beds are surrounded by mosquito netting, something we in minnesota should maybe consider. Our trip included going thru many small villages. When we have stopped for gas our vehicle is surrounded with people selling their wears. Note to self, close windows before stopping next time as the knife they were trying to sell Rob was a little close for comfort. One thing that surprised us is how common cell phones are. Everyone seems to have one, even in the slums. For the Paul family in phoenix, we just wanted to let you know that your Flat stanley is with us everywhere we go. Passing us on the road as we drive are many young men biking with their bikes loaded with bags of potatoes. They are traveling up to 70 km to sell the produce. Now we are on our way to the masa mara. Sorry we do not have the ability to load photos.
